Refund, Cancellation, Transfer, and Course Credit Policy

Brothers Employment & Training is committed to providing clear enrollment terms, responsive student support, and reasonable options when a participant cannot begin or complete a course as planned.

BET’s first goal is to help participants remain enrolled and successfully complete their training. Depending on the course and the participant’s circumstances, BET may offer technical assistance, an access extension, a temporary pause, transfer to another course or cohort, or a future course credit before processing a withdrawal.

These options are voluntary. A participant is not required to accept an extension, transfer, or credit instead of a refund to which the participant is legally entitled.

This policy applies to:

Electrical Foundations and Workforce Readiness

Applied Electrical Systems Fundamentals

Industrial Systems and Maintenance Fundamentals

Mastering the NEC: 4-Hour Texas Electrical Continuing Education

Employer-sponsored, grant-funded, and organization-sponsored training may be governed by a separate written agreement.

1.  Requesting Support Before Withdrawing

Participants experiencing difficulty accessing or completing a course are encouraged to contact BET before requesting withdrawal.

BET may provide, when appropriate:

Canvas login and technical assistance

Help navigating course requirements

Instructor or student-support consultation

A reasonable course-access extension

A temporary pause in enrollment

Transfer to a future cohort

Transfer to another eligible BET course

A future course credit

English-to-Spanish or Spanish-to-English course transfer, when available

An approved makeup plan for missed live instruction

Receiving support does not eliminate or reduce a participant’s refund rights.

2.  How to Submit a Cancellation or Refund Request

All cancellation, transfer, credit, and refund requests must be submitted in writing to:

The request should include:

Participant’s full name

Email address used during registration

Course name

Purchase or enrollment date

Reason for the request

Preferred resolution: support, extension, transfer, course credit, or refund

Relevant supporting information, when applicable

The effective request date is the date BET receives the written request.

BET will acknowledge the request within three business days and provide a written decision or request for additional information.

3.  Duplicate and Unauthorized Charges

A verified duplicate charge will be refunded in full.

A participant who believes a payment was unauthorized should notify BET immediately. BET may request reasonable documentation needed to investigate the transaction.

4.  Courses Canceled by BET

If BET cancels a course before it begins, the participant may choose:

A full refund;

Transfer to another available course or cohort; or

A course credit equal to the full amount paid.

If BET permanently discontinues a course after it begins and cannot provide a reasonable completion option, BET will provide the refund required by applicable law.

A participant will not be required to accept a transfer or course credit instead of an available refund.

5.  Self-Paced Workforce Courses

This section applies to:

Electrical Foundations and Workforce Readiness

Industrial Systems and Maintenance Fundamentals

Course access

Electrical Foundations and Workforce Readiness includes 30 days of Canvas access.

Industrial Systems and Maintenance Fundamentals includes three months of Canvas access.

These courses are self-paced and do not require completion of a fixed number of instructional hours. Course completion is based on the activities and requirements identified within the applicable Canvas classroom.

Cancellation before beginning the course

A participant who cancels before beginning substantive course activity will receive a full refund.

BET may also offer the participant the option to:

Delay the course-access start date;

Transfer enrollment to another eligible BET course; or

Receive a course credit valid for 12 months.

Cancellation shortly after enrollment

BET will provide any cancellation period required by TWC or other applicable law.

When applicable, a participant who cancels within 72 hours of entering the enrollment agreement will receive the refund required by law.

Withdrawal after beginning the course

Before processing a withdrawal, BET will offer the participant available retention options, which may include:

One complimentary access extension;

One temporary enrollment pause;

Transfer to another eligible course;

Restarting the course within 12 months; or

A course credit toward future BET training.

If the participant declines these options and requests a refund, BET will calculate the refund according to the TWC-approved or legally applicable refund method for the course.

If the course is classified as asynchronous distance education, the refund may be calculated using the number of required lessons or modules completed and serviced in relation to the total number of required lessons or modules.

Optional supplemental resources that are not required for course completion will not be used to inflate the participant’s completion percentage.

Access extensions

BET may grant one complimentary extension when the participant:

Requests the extension before access expires;

Has made reasonable progress or communicates a legitimate barrier to completion; and

Remains in good standing.

Recommended standard extensions are:

Up to 15 additional days for Electrical Foundations and Workforce Readiness

Up to 30 additional days for Industrial Systems and Maintenance Fundamentals

A longer extension may be approved for documented medical, military, family-emergency, accessibility, or technology-related circumstances.

6.  Applied Electrical Systems Fundamentals

Applied Electrical Systems Fundamentals is a six-week, live instructor-led course providing 24 total hours of scheduled instruction.

Participants meet for four live instructional hours per week and receive six months of Canvas access beginning on the cohort start date.

Cancellation before the cohort begins

A participant who withdraws before the first scheduled instructional session will receive a full refund.

Instead of a refund, the participant may elect to:

Transfer to the next available cohort;

Receive a course credit valid for 12 months; or

Transfer to another eligible BET course and apply the amount paid toward that course.

Attendance and missed sessions

Participants are expected to attend all scheduled live sessions.

A participant who misses a session may request an approved makeup plan. The makeup plan may include:

Reviewing the session recording;

Completing related Canvas materials;

Completing a knowledge check;

Submitting an assignment or written summary; or

Meeting with the instructor.

A recording does not automatically replace required participation. The absence is considered resolved only after the assigned makeup requirements are completed.

Transfer to another cohort

A participant who cannot continue may request one transfer to a future cohort.

The request should normally be submitted before the participant’s third scheduled weekly session. BET may approve later transfers for documented extenuating circumstances.

The transferred participant will not be charged additional tuition for the same course unless:

The participant previously completed the course;

The participant is requesting a second transfer; or

A material difference in course price or required materials applies.

Withdrawal after the course begins

BET will first offer the participant:

An approved makeup plan;

Transfer to a future cohort;

Continued Canvas access;

A temporary pause; or

A future course credit.

If the participant requests a refund instead, BET will provide the refund required under the course’s applicable TWC approval or exemption.

Short-course exemption refund rights

If Applied Electrical Systems Fundamentals is offered under Texas Education Code §132.003, BET will provide the written refund rights required by that section.

A registrant may request a refund of the course fee when the registrant:

Completes at least eight classroom hours or one-half of the course, whichever is less;

Is dissatisfied with the course; and

Submits a written refund request containing a reasonable explanation of the dissatisfaction no later than the 14th day after the course concludes.

If the instructor or the instructor’s qualifications differ from those identified in BET’s advertising or enrollment materials, the registrant may elect not to attend and request a refund before the course begins.

These required rights will be disclosed to registrants in writing no later than 14 days before the course begins when the exemption applies.

7.  Mastering the NEC: Texas Electrical Continuing Education

Mastering the NEC is a separate four-hour, online, self-paced TDLR continuing education course.

Cancellation before course completion

A participant who has not completed the course may request:

Cancellation and refund;

Additional time to finish the course;

Re-entry into the course;

Transfer between the English and Spanish versions, when available; or

Technical support.

BET will provide any refund required by applicable law and the terms disclosed during registration.

Course completion and reporting

The course is considered completed when the participant has:

Completed all required course content and activities;

Met the course’s time and participation requirements;

Received completion approval; and

Become eligible for certificate issuance and TDLR reporting.

After the course has been completed and the completion certificate has been issued or the completion has been reported to TDLR, the course fee is generally nonrefundable, except for:

A duplicate charge;

A verified BET processing error;

A material failure by BET to provide the course as represented; or

A refund otherwise required by law.

TDLR does not award partial continuing education credit. BET may, however, allow an eligible participant additional time to finish an incomplete course.

License eligibility

Failure to provide accurate license information, selection of an ineligible license type, expiration of the applicable license-renewal period, or completion of the same course more than once during a period in which duplicate credit is prohibited does not automatically entitle the participant to a refund.

BET will make reasonable efforts to help the participant identify and correct registration information before course completion and reporting.

8.  Certificates of Completion

A refund will not normally be issued after:

A BET certificate of completion has been issued;

A TDLR completion certificate has been issued;

Continuing education completion has been reported to TDLR; or

BET has verified that the participant completed all applicable course requirements.

This limitation does not apply when a refund is required by law or when the certificate or reporting resulted from a verified BET error.

9.  Scholarships and Sponsored Enrollment

When tuition is paid by an employer, foundation, government agency, nonprofit organization, scholarship fund, or another sponsor:

Any refund will normally be returned to the original payer;

The participant will not receive a cash refund for an amount the participant did not personally pay;

BET may offer the participant transfer, continued access, or another sponsored training opportunity when permitted by the sponsor; and

The sponsor agreement will control when it provides greater participant protections or additional requirements.

Scholarship awards and discounts have no cash value.

10. Payment Plans

Cancellation of enrollment does not automatically cancel unpaid obligations already earned under the applicable refund calculation.

When a refund is due under a payment plan:

BET will recalculate the amount earned and unearned;

Any unearned amount already paid will be refunded;

Any balance that is no longer owed will be canceled; and

The participant will receive a written account summary.

11. Course Materials and Third-Party Costs

Separately identified physical materials may be refundable if they are returned unused, unopened, and in resalable condition within 14 days of delivery.

Downloaded materials, activated third-party licenses, consumed digital products, replacement certificates, and separately disclosed third-party charges may be nonrefundable to the extent permitted by law.

BET will not deduct a fee or cost that was not clearly disclosed before enrollment.

12. Exceptional Circumstances

BET may approve additional flexibility for:

Serious illness or injury

Death or serious illness in the immediate family

Military activation or deployment

Natural disaster

Loss of housing

Documented accessibility barriers

Extended technology or internet failure

Other significant circumstances outside the participant’s reasonable control

Available resolutions may include:

Extended access

Temporary pause

Cohort transfer

Course restart

Course credit

Modified completion plan

Refund when appropriate or legally required

Documentation may be requested when reasonably necessary, but BET will not require unnecessary medical or sensitive personal information.

13. Refund Processing

Approved refunds will be issued to the original payment method whenever reasonably possible.

BET aims to process approved refunds within 10 business days after approval. In all cases, BET will process refunds within the timeframe required by applicable law, TWC requirements, the payment provider, or the applicable enrollment agreement.

BET will provide written confirmation when a refund has been approved and submitted.

Financial institutions and payment processors may require additional time to post the refund.

14. Chargebacks and Payment Disputes

Participants are encouraged to contact BET before initiating a payment dispute so BET has an opportunity to correct an error or provide an appropriate resolution.

Nothing in this policy prevents a participant from exercising lawful rights through the participant’s financial institution, payment provider, TWC, TDLR, or another government agency.

Submitting a knowingly false payment dispute may result in suspension of course access while the matter is investigated.

15. No Waiver of Legal Rights

This policy will be interpreted consistently with applicable Texas law, TWC requirements, TDLR requirements, and the written determination governing each BET course.

When a law, rule, exemption condition, approval requirement, contract, or regulator-approved policy provides a participant with a greater refund right than this policy, the more protective requirement will control.

BET will revise this policy as necessary when it receives final TWC exemption or approval determinations.
