What is Brothers Employment & Training?
Brothers Employment & Training (BET) is a Texas-based nonprofit workforce education
organization that provides accessible online electrical, industrial, maintenance, safety, and
workforce-readiness education.
BET offers non-TDLR workforce education through self-paced and instructor-led courses. BET
also offers a separate TDLR-approved continuing education course for eligible Texas electrical
license holders.
What is BET’s mission?
BET’s mission is to expand access to practical, industry-aligned education that strengthens
technical knowledge, workplace readiness, safety awareness, and career development.
BET is committed to providing flexible learning opportunities for adults, entry-level workers,
career changers, incumbent employees, and individuals exploring electrical, industrial, and
maintenance-related career pathways.
Where are BET courses offered?
BET courses are delivered online through the Canvas learning management system. Participants
may access course materials from any location with a reliable internet connection and compatible
device.
Live, instructor-led courses are conducted online at scheduled dates and times.
Are all BET courses approved by TDLR?
No.
Only Mastering the NEC is offered as a TDLR-approved electrical continuing education
course.
BET’s non-TDLR workforce courses do not provide TDLR continuing education credit and are
not represented as licensing, certification, apprenticeship, or college-credit programs.

These courses do not include scheduled live instruction, individual tutoring, or real-time
instructor-led sessions.
Which course includes live instruction?
Applied Electrical Systems Fundamentals is BET’s six-week, instructor-led online course.
The course includes four scheduled hours of live instruction each week, for a total of 24 live
instructional hours.
Electrical Foundations and Workforce Readiness
What is Electrical Foundations and Workforce Readiness?
Electrical Foundations and Workforce Readiness is a self-paced online educational course
designed for individuals who are new to the electrical field or exploring electrical and
maintenance-related career pathways.
Available content may address:

- Professional conduct

Is previous electrical experience required?
No. Electrical Foundations and Workforce Readiness is designed for introductory learners and
does not require previous electrical employment, licensing, apprenticeship participation, or
technical training.
How long will I have access?
Participants receive 30 consecutive days of online access beginning on the date their Canvas
course access is activated.
Course materials are generally available 24 hours a day, seven days a week during the access
period, subject to internet availability, scheduled maintenance, and normal platform operations.
Is there a live instructor?
No. Electrical Foundations and Workforce Readiness is self-paced and does not include
scheduled live instruction, tutoring, or real-time instructor support.
BET may provide administrative or technical assistance with registration, account access, and
Canvas navigation. Administrative assistance should not be interpreted as live course instruction.
Must I complete every available lesson or activity?
No. Participants may review the available lessons, activities, demonstrations, simulations, and
career-readiness resources most relevant to their interests and goals during the 30-day access
period.
The course does not require participants to accumulate a fixed amount of seat time or complete
every resource in the learning library.
Will I receive a BET certificate?
No. BET does not issue a certificate of completion for Electrical Foundations and Workforce
Readiness.
The course is provided for career exploration, workforce education, professional development,
and independent learning. Participation does not result in a license, professional certification,
apprenticeship credential, college credit, or state-issued qualification.
Industrial Systems and Maintenance Fundamentals
What is Industrial Systems and Maintenance Fundamentals?
Industrial Systems and Maintenance Fundamentals is a self-paced online educational course that
provides access to an extensive library of industrial, electrical, maintenance, safety, and
simulator-supported learning resources.
Available subject areas may include:

How long will I have access?
Participants receive 90 consecutive days of full online access beginning on the date their
Canvas access is activated.
Course materials are generally available 24 hours a day, seven days a week during the access
period, subject to internet availability, scheduled maintenance, and normal platform operations.
Is this a required 240-hour course?
No.
Industrial Systems and Maintenance Fundamentals provides access to approximately 240 hours
of available instructional, demonstration, simulation, practice, and reference content.
The 240 hours describe the approximate amount of content available in the learning library. They
do not represent:
- Required seat time
- Mandatory completion hours
- A required 240-hour program
- Apprenticeship hours
- College credit
- Licensing hours
- A professional certification
- A state-recognized occupational credential
Participants may review the content most relevant to their interests and professionaldevelopment needs during the 90-day access period.
Must I complete every lesson or simulator?
No. Participants are not required to complete every available lesson, simulation, demonstration,
activity, or reference resource.
The course is designed to provide flexible access to a broad technical learning library rather than
require every participant to follow an identical sequence or accumulate a fixed amount of
instructional time.
Does the course include a live instructor?
No. Industrial Systems and Maintenance Fundamentals does not include scheduled live classes,
individual tutoring, or real-time instructor-led instruction.
Participants review the available materials independently.
Will I receive a BET certificate?
No. BET does not issue a certificate of completion for Industrial Systems and Maintenance
Fundamentals.
Participation does not award an occupational license, professional certification, apprenticeship
credential, college credit, continuing education credit, or authorization to perform regulated
work.
Do the simulations provide hands-on job qualification?
No. Online simulations are educational resources designed to reinforce concepts and provide
virtual practice.
They do not replace:
- Supervised field experience
- Employer-provided training
- Hands-on laboratory instruction
- Equipment-specific qualification
- Occupational licensing
- Registered apprenticeship requirements
- Workplace safety authorization
- Compliance with applicable laws and employer procedures
Applied Electrical Systems Fundamentals
What is Applied Electrical Systems Fundamentals?
Applied Electrical Systems Fundamentals is BET’s six-week, instructor-led online workforce
education course.
The course combines scheduled live instruction with Canvas learning materials, guided
activities, technical demonstrations, and supplemental educational resources.
How many live instructional hours are included?
The course includes four scheduled hours of live instruction each week for six weeks, for a total
of 24 live instructional hours.
How long will I have Canvas access?
Participants receive up to six months of Canvas access beginning on the cohort start date, unless
a different period is stated in the applicable enrollment materials.
The additional access period allows participants to review course materials and supplemental
resources after the live instructional portion concludes.
Is attendance required?
Yes. Participants are expected to attend all scheduled live sessions and complete the required
course activities.
Attendance and participation requirements are communicated before the cohort begins.
What happens if I miss a live session?
Participants should notify BET as soon as possible when they expect to miss a scheduled session.
BET may approve a makeup process based on the circumstances, course schedule, materials
covered, and participant’s attendance record. Makeup requirements may include reviewing
available materials and completing assigned Canvas activities.
Approval of makeup work is not automatic.
Are live sessions recorded?
Recording availability, when applicable, will be communicated in the cohort enrollment
materials.
Access to a recording does not automatically replace required attendance. Participants must
satisfy any approved makeup requirements established by BET.
Will I receive a certificate of completion?
Participants who satisfy the published attendance, participation, makeup-work, and courseactivity requirements may receive a Brothers Employment & Training Certificate of
Completion.
The certificate documents completion of BET’s educational requirements. It is not:
- A Texas electrician license
- An industry certification
- A registered apprenticeship credential
- College credit
- TDLR continuing education credit
- Authorization to perform regulated electrical work
- A guarantee of employment or wages
Mastering the NEC — TDLR Continuing Education
What is Mastering the NEC?
Mastering the NEC is BET’s online four-hour Texas electrical continuing education course for
eligible electrical license holders completing continuing education for license renewal.
The course addresses required subject areas that include:
National Electrical Code content applicable in Texas
- Texas electrical laws and administrative rules
- Electrical safety
- NFPA 70E safety concepts
- Professional and regulatory responsibilities

Who should take Mastering the NEC?

Is Mastering the NEC self-paced?
Yes. Mastering the NEC is completed online through Canvas.
Participants must complete the required lessons, activities, identity or participation verification
requirements, and the full four hours of approved course content.
Is partial continuing education credit available?
No. Participants must complete the entire four-hour course. Partial TDLR continuing education
credit is not available.
Will I receive a completion certificate?
Yes. After BET verifies successful completion of all required course components, the participant
may receive a course-completion certificate.
This certificate is specifically associated with the TDLR-approved Mastering the NEC course.
Certificates are not issued for BET’s non-TDLR self-paced workforce courses.
Does BET report completed continuing education to TDLR?
Yes. BET reports qualifying course completions to TDLR using the participant information
submitted during registration.
Participants are responsible for providing an accurate:
- Legal name
- Electrical license number
- License type
- Email address
- Other required registration information
Incorrect or incomplete information may delay reporting.
Does completing the course automatically renew my license?
No. Completing Mastering the NEC does not automatically renew an electrical license.
Participants remain responsible for:
- Confirming renewal eligibility
- Submitting the license-renewal application
- Paying applicable renewal fees
- Meeting all other TDLR requirements
- Confirming that their continuing education completion has been recorded
Are the non-TDLR workforce courses eligible for TDLR credit?
No. Only Mastering the NEC provides the approved TDLR continuing education credit
described above.
Electrical Foundations and Workforce Readiness, Applied Electrical Systems Fundamentals, and
Industrial Systems and Maintenance Fundamentals do not provide TDLR continuing education
credit.
Registration and Canvas Access
How do I register for a BET course?
Participants should select the appropriate course and complete BET’s official registration or
program-information form.
Registration may require:
- Legal name
- Email address
- Telephone number
- Course selection
- Payment information or payment status
- Policy acknowledgments
- Information needed for Canvas enrollment
- Electrical license information for Mastering the NEC
What happens after registration?
After registration and applicable payment requirements have been confirmed:
- BET reviews the submitted information.
- BET creates or locates the participant’s Canvas account.
- BET enrolls the participant in the selected course.
- Canvas access or account-confirmation instructions are sent by email.
- The participant follows the prompts to create a password, accept the course invitation, or
access an existing account.
Participants should check their inbox, spam, junk, clutter, and promotions folders for messages
from BET and Canvas.
When does my course-access period begin?
The access period begins when BET activates the participant’s access to the applicable Canvas
course.
For self-paced workforce courses:
- Electrical Foundations and Workforce Readiness: 30 days
- Industrial Systems and Maintenance Fundamentals: 90 days
Failure to log in or use the course does not automatically pause or extend the access period.
Can my access period be extended?
Extensions are not guaranteed. Requests may be reviewed individually based on the course,
reason for the request, timing, platform availability, and applicable enrollment terms.
Any approved extension must be confirmed by BET in writing.
What happens when my access period ends?
At the end of the applicable access period, participants may lose access to course lessons,
simulations, videos, activities, and reference materials.
Participants are responsible for reviewing desired materials before access expires.
What technology do I need?
Participants should have: - A reliable internet connection
- An active email address
- A current web browser
- A computer or tablet capable of accessing Canvas
- Audio capability for videos and demonstrations
- A camera and microphone for live instruction when required
A computer or tablet is recommended for simulations, technical diagrams, assignments, and live
sessions.
What should I do if I do not receive a Canvas invitation?
Participants should:
- Check spam, junk, promotions, and clutter folders.
- Confirm that the registration email address was entered correctly.
- Use the Canvas password-reset option if an account may already exist.
- Contact BET with their full name, registration email, and selected course.
Can I share my Canvas login?
No. Canvas accounts and course access are issued for individual use.
Participants should not share passwords, account credentials, course materials, videos,
simulations, or other restricted content with another person.
Certificates, Credentials, and Career Outcomes
Which BET courses provide certificates?
Certificates may be issued for:
- Applied Electrical Systems Fundamentals, after all published completion requirements
are satisfied - Mastering the NEC, after all TDLR continuing education requirements are satisfied
BET does not issue completion certificates for:
- Electrical Foundations and Workforce Readiness
- Industrial Systems and Maintenance Fundamentals
Are BET workforce courses registered apprenticeships?
No. BET’s workforce courses do not independently provide:
- Registered apprenticeship enrollment
- Apprenticeship credit
- Documented on-the-job training hours
- Journeyman-level qualification
- Employer authorization
- Occupational licensing
Do BET courses provide an electrical license?
No. BET does not issue electrical licenses.
Participants remain responsible for satisfying all education, experience, examination, application,
supervision, fee, and other requirements established by TDLR or another applicable authority.
Does BET guarantee employment?
No. BET does not guarantee:
- Employment
- Job placement
- Interviews
- Promotions
- Specific wages
- Apprenticeship acceptance
- Licensing
- Admission to another educational program
BET’s courses are intended to support education, career exploration, workforce readiness,
technical knowledge, and professional development.
Payments, Cancellations, and Refunds
Where can I find course prices?
Current prices are displayed on the applicable course page, registration form, or payment page.
Participants should review the selected course, price, access period, delivery method, and
applicable policies before submitting payment.
What is BET’s refund policy?
Refund eligibility is governed by BET’s published Refund and Cancellation Policy and the
enrollment terms applicable to the selected course.
Eligibility may depend on:
- The course selected
- The date the request is received
- Whether payment has been processed
- Whether Canvas access has been activated
- Whether course materials have been accessed
- Whether a live cohort has begun
- The participant’s attendance or participation
- Applicable administrative or nonrecoverable costs

Does failure to use the course automatically qualify me for a refund?
No. Failure to log in, attend, participate, or review the available materials does not automatically
establish refund eligibility.
Refund determinations are made according to the policy and enrollment terms accepted during
registration.
Can I transfer to another course or cohort?
Transfer requests are reviewed individually and are not guaranteed.
Approval may depend on course availability, the timing of the request, whether access has been
activated, the participant’s prior activity, and any difference in course fees.

TDLR participants should verify their information before completing the course because
inaccurate license information may delay reporting.
